CADAVRE EXQUIS
WORKS BY SHARON AND GUY
RECEPTION FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14TH FROM 5–8
LOCATED IN THE FINE ARTS BUILDING 410 S MICHIGAN AVE, SUITE 306
Originating with the Surrealists in the 1920s, Cadavre Exquis (or exquisite corpse) is a collaborative process that engages participants to contribute to a composition without seeing preceding contributions, thereby resulting in outcomes that are unpredictable. Utilizing aspects of this process, Sharon and Guy’s methodology for making collages is an ongoing interplay between perception and creation. This dynamic functions as a site for experimentation, where abstraction operates as a visual language, and juxtaposition functions as a vehicle through which meaning is negotiated. It is an approach that has established a framework for sustained inquiry into image-making as a means of exploring material, spatial, and conceptual possibilities.
